I can’t remember exactly when I discovered Night Birds, but I knew from the first listen that I needed them in my life. Night Birds are (now) a five-piece punk band from New Jersey with a sound that can only be described as “a mix of The Adolescents and Poison Idea with a surf-rock edge”.
Their new mini-LP “Roll Credits” is a catchy 80’s throwback released on Fat Wreck Chords. With cool, surfy instrumentals to fast-paced bangers such as “My Dad is the B.T.K.”, and “Onward to Obscurity”, Night Birds show no sign of slowing down in their ten year existence. Along with a guest vocal spot from Poison Idea’s very own Jerry A, “Roll Credits” also sees Night Birds go from a four-piece to a five-piece, with the return of former guitarist Mike Hunchback after his departure back in 2012.
I’ve listened to this record a lot since it was released, and with a run-time of 17 minutes I always find myself pressing play again as soon as it ends. I seriously can’t get enough of this band, and hope to finally catch them live at some point!
Stand out tracks: My Dad is the BTK, Radium Girls, Onward to Obscurity.
